I just got an email from iStockphoto.com that announced that they are taking logos now.  There are a lot of rules and regulations that are set up for designers, but it could be a good solution for designers and businesses.  As usual, I think the costs are a bit low, but I guess it is stock.

There’s been a lot of discussion on the web about this. Crowdsourcing design isn’t new. In fact, many companies have been doing it for quite a while. Does it hurt the design profession? I don’t really think so.

Does Hyundai hurt Mercedes? Does Motel 6 hurt Hyatt? No. There will always be clients who are fine with getting a stock logo and paying ridiculously low fees. And, there will always be clients who appreciate and value the true cost of creativity.

My 2 cents.

I can’t say I’m thrilled there’s another one of these popping up, but I suppose it does help illustrate that iStock isn’t for for production-level work.

Eric, you make a good point about cars. I know that as a front-end guy, my business wasn’t ever hurt by all the $199 PSD to HTML houses that popped up. Just another opportunity to differentiate with handcrafted work and one-on-one attention.
